Bailes
Dominates Beckley USA 100 for $20,000

(August
5, 2023) It didn’t take Ross Bailes long to find
victory lane in his new ride. Making just his third feature start
behind the wheel of a Norman Nichols-owned Barry Wright Race Car,
the 33-year-old Clover, South Carolina driver matched his career-high
with a $20,000 'Beckley USA 100' victory with the Southern All
Star Dirt Racing Series at Beckley Motor Speedway.
Bailes led
all the way, surviving an early slide-job attempt by Jimmy Owens,
a midrace challenge from Jacob Hawkins, and finally a late scrape
with a slower car in maintaining control all the way. Zack Dohm
of Cross Lanes, West Virginia, driving his father Tim’s
No. 6T, rallied from his 12th starting spot for third while Zack
Mitchell of Enoree, South Carolina and Newport, Tennessee's Owens
rounded out the top five. Polesitter Garrett Smith, of Eatonton,
Georgia, was never a factor - dropping out of the top five after
14 laps and finishing 13th. |

Dietz
Earns First Career AAS Series Victory!

(July
28, 2023) The American All-Star Series (AAS) rolled back
into Beckley Motor Speedway tonight and a $3,000 top prize was
up for grabs in the C. Adam Toney 40. Dillon Brown led the field
to the green flag, but as the competitors were cross under to
take the green flag Duke Lowe had a part failure that caused him
to lose a wheel and tire on the outside. This caused a pileup
with the majority of the back half of the starting field taking
some fast cars out of contention early in the night. We lined
back up and began the race after a long delay to clear the track.
Dillon Brown jumped out to the lead with Dietz in pursuit in the
meantime Greco worked his way into third position. On the next
caution Dietz chose to take the inside line which did not work
out and let Greco take over the second spot. As the competitors
came to lapped traffic Brown made slight contact with his right
front to the outside wall. (Peeping Dragon

In the meantime
Dietz was working on Greco and trying to get back around him which
he would do for second. Another caution came out and Dietz was
ready to pounce. Brown missed the corner ever so slightly and
Dietz powered to the front. Brown ran him down and stayed with
him for a time before a couple more competitors worked his way
by him. Dietz was rolling and Brown pulled to the infield. With
two to go a caution would fly and Hornsby had worked his way to
second ready to give Dietz one last run. Hornsby had found the
low line just like he did in the super week a few weeks prior.
Hornsby would get beside Dietz, but was unable to make the pass.
Dietz would go on to grab his first career AAS win and grab the
points lead back from Jesse Lowe. Henry Hornsby III would grab
second with one of the hottest drivers in the series currently,
Zach Sise taking third. Jesse Lowe would run fourth while Baillie
Lowe grabbed his best career series finish of fifth. Eddie Hambrick
who had damage from the initial incident would bring his hotrod
home sixth with Logan Walls taking seventh. Brent Trimble, Shane
Greco, and Logan Roberson would round out the top ten. |

Owens
Beats Rain & Competition for $10,053

(July
14, 2023) At an early morning hour when most people in
the Eastern Time Zone were fast asleep, Jimmy Owens was giving
his competition a Nightmare by sweeping the Schaeffer's Oil Southern
Nationals Series lid lifter at Beckley Motor Speedway in Mount
Hope, West Virginia! After a several hour rain delay pushed the
start of the program to around 10:15pm local time, Jimmy not only
laid down the quickest times in hot laps and qualifying, but he
also emerged victorious in his heat race and the 53-lap headliner.
The popular driver known as the “Newport Nightmare”
was well in command for most of the early morning main event,
but was forced to hold on late after a caution bunched up the
field with a handful of circuits remaining in the contest.
Jimmy, who
hails from Newport, Tennessee, repelled eighth starting Henry
Hornsby III and beat the hometown Beckley driver to the checkered
flag by 0.201 of a second to bag the $10,053 first place prize
money. Hornsby came up just shy in pulling off the upset at his
home track, but was awarded a $5,000 payday for his impressive
runner-up performance. Kyle Hardy pitted from third for a new
right rear tire on lap 27, but rallied back through the stout
field to round out the podium. Tyler Carpenter improved eight
positions to finish in the fourth spot, while Chris Ferguson hung
around the top five throughout the distance to eventually land
a fifth place effort. | full
